Parameter Estimation for Bomhuet ter /Ferguson

چکیده

The Bomhuetter/Fergnason loss reserving method consists of selecting a development pattern and, for each accident year, an initial ultimate loss ratio. From these, the reserve estimate is derived. In this paper, the usual way to obtain the development pattern from the cl~in ladder link ratios is criticized because it assumes a multiplicat~ve connection between past and future loss amounts whereas the Bornhuetter/Ferg, ason method establishes an additive connection (i.e. an independence). Therefore, an alternative approach to derive and select a deveh)pment pattern is proposed. Furthermore, the raw data usually contain some implicit information about the underwriting cycle. This paper shows how this information can be extracted from the data and used in the selection of the initial ulurnate loss ratios. Altogether the proposed approach is believed to align with the concepts of Bornhuetter and Ferguson better than the conventional approach does. The result is a standalone reserving method which does not rely upon the use of chain ladder elements.

Parameter Estimation of Some Archimedean Copulas Based on Minimum Cramér-von-Mises Distance

The purpose of this paper is to introduce a new estimation method for estimating the Archimedean copula dependence parameter in the non-parametric setting. The estimation of the dependence parameter has been selected as the value that minimizes the Cramér-von-Mises distance which measures the distance between Empirical Bernstein Kendall distribution function and true Kendall distribution functi...

Maximum Likelihood Estimation of a Natural Parameter for a One-Sided TEF

In the presence of nuisance parameters, the asymptotic loss of the maximum likelihood estimator of an interest parameter was discussed by Akahira and Takeuchi (1982) and Akahira (1986) under suitable regularity conditions from the viewpoint of higher order asymptotics. On the other hand, in statistical estimation in multiparameter cases, the conditional likelihood method is well known as a way ...

Filtering Additive Measurement Noise with Maximum Entropy in the Mean

The purpose of this note is to show how the method of maximum entropy in the mean (MEM) may be used to improve parametric estimation when the measurements are corrupted by large level of noise. The method is developed in the context on a concrete example: that of estimation of the parameter in an exponential distribution. We compare the performance of our method with the bayesian and maximum li...
